Homecoming Heroes: The Wolves clinch a homecoming win

After demolishing the Reseda High School Regents with a score of 38-0, the Wolves faced Canoga Park High School at home for the homecoming game, ultimately winning 49-20.

The bottom line | The Wolves football team played against the Canoga Park High School Hunters on Friday, Oct. 18, and came out victorious, winning with a score of 49-20.

Highlights |

  • Two rushing touchdowns were made by quarterback Carlos Herrera, (#7) cruising through the Hunters guarding the end zone
  • Wide receivers Jeremy Moreno, (#1) Louis Welling-Belli, (#5) Edwin Herrera (#12) Thomas Diaz (#16) and running back Marlon Figueroa (#11) all scored a touchdown from receiving passes assisted by captain Herrera
  • Middle linebacker Hector Gonzalez (#18) and linebacker Hudson Mirsky (#20) displayed amazing defensive skills as they both combined for fourteen total tackles

What’s next | The Wolves will go against the Sylmar High School Spartans next Thursday, Oct. 24, away from the Wolves’ den.

Team thoughts | “Offensively we did great, defensively we were struggling,” junior linebacker Luis Giron said. “Specifically in the first half, but we were able to get it together for the rest of the game. We were able to get through it by having players on the team step up and push us to do our best.”

Our thoughts | This game was full of mixed emotions from a great number of individuals. Parents and students cheered on the team as seniors on the field and bleachers mourned their last homecoming game. With a strong homecoming win in the books, students were filled with excitement for the following night; homecoming.

For the books |

  • 6 wins, 2 losses
  • Valley Mission League

Isabel Valles, Athletics Editor
Through participating in multiple sports writing competitions, I was able to prove my commitment to the class and was chosen to become sports editor in my second year of journalism. My love for sports writing came around the time my love for sports developed around 6 years ago. Another thing I love about writing about sports is being able to inform and catch up readers about games that they may have missed. Currently I play three sports, flag football, track and field, and basketball. After high school I plan on attending either the University of Pennsylvania or the University of Santa Cruz. My goal for this year as editor is to become a better leader and learn from any mistakes that I might make in the process.
