Sylmar beats varsity football in final game of the season

The tackle football team faced off against the Sylmar Spartans on Thursday, Oct. 19 at home, losing by a score of 47-28.

Highlights | 

  • Jeremy Rivas (#2) sprinted through many defenders and scored a receiving touchdown.
  • Marlon Figueroa (#11), the star of the show, scored two touchdowns, one being a rushing touchdown and the other being a receiving touchdown.
  • Leelen Castro (#10) scored two PATs (Point After Touchdown), adding two points to the scoreboard.
  • First quarter 0-0
  • Second quarter 13-28
  • Third quarter 7-6
  • Fourth quarter 8-13

What’s next | This was the team’s last game of the season.

Player thoughts | 

“I thought we fought really hard, even though it was not the outcome that we wanted, we fought to the best of our ability,” varsity quarterback Carlos Herrera said. “It’s tough that this was the last home game because I have a group of seniors that are leaving. It’s hard to take all that in, but I’m just looking forward to next year and the year after that.”

Our thoughts | It’s tough to see the team get destroyed at the last home game, but overall the Wolves had a great season and will be back next year stronger than ever.

Through participating in multiple sports writing competitions, I was able to prove my commitment to the class and was chosen to become sports editor in my second year of journalism. My love for sports writing came around the time my love for sports developed around 6 years ago. Another thing I love about writing about sports is being able to inform and catch up readers about games that they may have missed. Currently I play three sports, flag football, track and field, and basketball. After high school I plan on attending either the University of Pennsylvania or the University of Santa Cruz. My goal for this year as editor is to become a better leader and learn from any mistakes that I might make in the process.
