Girls volleyball faces heartbreak on senior night

In preparation for their first playoff game on Oct. 28, the lady Wolves suffer a disappointing defeat to the Valley Academy of Arts and Sciences Vipers with a 2-3 match on their Senior Night.

The bottom line | The girls volleyball team played against the Valley Academy of Arts & Science Vipers on Monday Oct. 21 for the girls highly anticipated senior night, which unfortunately ended on a bad note, losing 2-3.

Star player senior Samantha Sirichai braces herself for another round, hoping the team’s luck will turn up. (THE MIRROR | David Vazquez)

Pre-game thoughts | “Knowing this is our last game is really sad but exciting because we are familiar with the people on the other team, we all are friends, so it is friendly competition,” senior libero Camila Santiago said.

Highlights |

Sophomore Lauren Renard runs to serve the ball, starting off a round that would win the Wolves a point. (THE MIRROR | David Vazquez)
  • Sophomore outside hitter, Lauren Renard (#27) sprung her body over the net, blocking the ball, winning the Lady Wolves a point
  • Sophomore opposite hitter, Lucea Barte (#22) shows off an impressive spike, almost causing the opposing team to falter in receiving the ball
  • Senior libero, Camila Santiago (#10) smoothly dives twice in one set, hustling to keep the ball up in the air for her teammates
  • Senior defensive specialist, Joanie Isidro (#7) wows the audience with her amazing receiving skills, stopping the other teams spikes from touching the floor, prohibiting them from winning anymore points

What’s Next | The teams next game is a home game against Thomas Jefferson high school on Monday Oct. 28 at 4 p.m. for the teams first game of the 2024 California Interscholastic Federation Los Angeles City Section Girls’ Volleyball Championships- Division III.

Team thoughts | “We performed very well even though we fell short having lost on our senior night, we played with the most intensity and energy in this game out of all of our past games,” senior defensive specialist Joanie Isidro said.

Our thoughts | Our Lady Wolves put in a whole lot of effort during this game along with discipline and consistency. They were unfortunately met with a loss as this was a challenge against their more experienced club volleyball teammates but were still able to give themselves a good and memorable senior night that they can look back on.
