October 31, 2017
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Strong team performance propels Van Nuys to a 3-0 victory.
In the first round of the CIFLACS Girl’s Volleyball Division 1 playoffs, Van Nuys welcomed Diego Rivera on Monday, Oct.30.
Immediately Van Nuys found their rhythm in the service line as Captain #7 Alex Dalumpines contributed with three aces and various tough float serves. Creating confusion within the back row allowed Van Nuys to keep them out of system throughout. Accurate passing from #26 Emily Tsaturian allowed Dalumpines and #20 Lauren Woolsey to dish out sets to their hitters. Captain #14 Lolit Aninias, #18 Catalina Rodriguez, and #10 Kiara Gebert would have a strong showing as they crushed the ball throughout the court.
Van Nuys would continue their tough serving in the second set. Keeping the Huskies out of system on offense, allowed the Wolves to go on the offensive. Rodriguez and Aninias would carve up the back row defenders, with various tips and hits between the seams. Solidifying the defense was Tsaturian and #25 Samantha Gacusan as they displayed their immense hustle and toughness. Picking up tips and digging the incoming hits established the defensive tone as the match progressed. The consistent defense and offense would result in a 25-13 win in the second yet.
Van Nuys would once again establish their dominance on the service line. The Huskies would have no answer for the float serves, as their passing struggles continued. Joining the offensive party was Dalumpines as she and Woolsey formed a setter to setter connection. Dalumpines operated in the right side, where she would have four kills. Eventually Diego Rivera was overwhelmed, as Van Nuys won 25-17.
Final Score: 25-17, 25-13, 25-17
