The bottom line | Despite not having a head coach, softball tryouts were held after school, Jan. 26, on the baseball field. The last season played by the girl’s softball team was cut short in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Our thoughts | The girl’s softball team last played two years ago after their 2020 season came to an abrupt end due to the covid pandemic. That season the girls lost three games, with their only win coming by way of a forfeit by the Reseda Regents. To add insult to injury, the 2020 girl’s team were outscored by their opponents 28-3. Later that season, the team would also lose their head coach. Coming into the 2022 season, expectations are low for the softball team. This is not based on the talent of individual players, but rather the experience, chemistry and leadership of the team as a whole. In the course of two years, both the senior class of 2020 and the senior class of 2021 have graduated which may have meant the potential loss of experienced softball players. In addition to the loss of experienced players, the lack of offseason training and practice during the season will most likely hinder the development of both individual athletes and the team as a whole. This season will most likely be one of trial and error as returning athletes will neither have practiced nor played a game since 2020, inexperienced players will need to develop two years worth of skills in a single season and the lack of a permanent coaching structure will further delay the development of any team chemistry.

Mar. 11, 2020: The Wolves were decimated by the San Fernando Tigers at home (20-0)
