Los Angeles Unified School District Superintendent Austin Beutner addressed the school community on Monday, May 11.
He unveiled new classes for summer school students, such as an Animation class taught by Illumination, the studio that created the Despicable Me movies. The LA Chargers will also teach a class on the “Science of Sports” and the Oscar-winning director of Titanic James Cameron is teaching a class on the deep ocean.
Students can sign-up starting May 18 here.
He also said that 18 million meals have been provided, as supported by individuals and businesses who have donated more than $11 million.
“It’s the largest relief effort in the country and a stark reminder of how real the struggle is for many families in the communities we serve,” he said in the video.
According to him, “as just about every one of the students in all of schools” has the required resources such as internet and devices to partake in online learning.
Whether fall classes will be in-person remains unclear as covid-19 cases continue to rise in LA County. No cure has been found.
