The Van Nuys High School student newspaper, The Mirror, added three more awards to its belt, after being entered in the American Scholastic Press Association’s (ASPA) annual contest, which pitted the publication against high schools and colleges across the country.

Scoring a 950 out of 1000, The Mirror was awarded First Place with Special Merit, being one of the only five public high schools winning the top award this year.

The Mirror’s December 2017 issue was awarded Outstanding Cover/Front Page, which was shared with only other four publications this year—the other three being colleges.

Furthermore, the contest’s award for Outstanding Overall Photography was given to The Mirror’s Photo Editor Theresa Nguyen.
