“SNL’s” Melissa McCarthy Nails Trump Press Secretary

ENTERTAINMENT: The best thing about Sean Spicer is Melissa McCarthy… and President Trump doesn’t like it.
Hollywood has been in love with Melissa McCarthy since 2014, when the popular comedic actress and former “Gilmore Girls” alum starred in “The Heat” with Sandra Bullock. McCarthy has recently taken over movie screens, starring in films like “Spy” and “Central Intelligence.”
The versatile McCarthy shows great comedic expertise. Her latest escapade has her in a bald cap with a shrill voice, posing as White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer.
Spicer is known for making incorrect or seemingly absurd comments, which have blown up all over the internet. His latest mistakes came in at a press conference, after informing a reporter that “ didn’t even sink to using chemical weapons,” although he sent Jews to “the Holocaust center.”
He apologized, but his statement was more along the lines of self-defense, rather than atoning for incorrect and purely offensive statements. NBC’s late-night television show “Saturday Night Live” was quick to jump at the chance to make fun of the Press Secretary, using Melissa McCarthy to mimic the loudmouthed politician.
Much like Alec Baldwin, McCarthy’s recent SNL performances have been brilliantly bringing ‘Spicey’ to life. Yes, her version of Spicer refers to himself as “Spicey.” McCarthy moves around in violent ways, chases reporters away with a podium, and pulls items out of boxes to explain hard subjects that reporters just can’t understand. Everything she says and does as Spicer is absolutely absurd, which is why her impression is so spot on. It’s hilarious.
Many celebrities have came out to say they love the satire that SNL has been using this season, but by far the best quote I’ve heard was from former “West Wing” star Allison Janney. stated, “The best thing about Sean Spicer is Melissa McCarthy.” I can’t help but agree.
Spicer himself said last February that he thought the sketches were funny, but she should “slow down on the gum chewing—way too many pieces in there,” which is in reference to a sketch in which she insinuated that Spicer has a gum addiction. However, President Trump reportedly felt uncomfortable about a woman playing Spicer. According to Politico, a Trump donor said, “ doesn’t like his people to look weak.”
If Trump’s alleged discomfort is not enough to make you tune in to NBC and watch Saturday Night Live, take this as a strong recommendation to set an alarm for 11:30 p.m. every Saturday. Be prepared to laugh until you cry at our President (Alec Baldwin) and Press Secretary (McCarthy).
