Van Nuys students, athletes, and Power106 cast pause for the mannequin challenge during the Power106 basketball game.

The Mannequin Challenge, a very popular viral trend across the Internet, has come to Van Nuys High School.

Famous celebrities and top athletes have post videos of themselves attempting the challenge in which they act as if they are the mannequins, freezing their actions and not allowing movement.

This new craze started with a teenager from Jacksonville, Fla., who posted a video of his friends frozen in place while playing the song “Black Beatles” by Rae Sremmurd ft. Gucci Mane in the background.

Students at Van Nuys High School tried the Mannequin Challenge during the Power 106 Basketball Game, an event where the Van Nuys Basketball Team played celebrities from the radio station Power 106 as a fundraiser for the Athletics Program. During the game, Power 106 DJ played “Black Beatles,” and the entire crowd—including the players—held their movements.

The Van Nuys High School Track and Field team has also attempted the Mannequin Challenge.

Why did they do it? “It was a social trend so we all agreed to it for the fun of it,” said Daniel De La O.
