Early School Schedule

Early School Schedule

Change is inevitable and often for the better, but not in this case. The LAUSD Board of Education voted on Dec. 12 to determine the school schedule for the future academic calendars.
The board voted for the maintenance of the school year to begin in mid-August for the first semester and end it off before the three week Winter Break. The opposing option was to begin the school year after the Labor Day weekend and push the end of the Fall Semester post-Winter Break. Members argued that the delayed calendar will give students more time to work on their college applications as well as balance out the two semesters from its current 79 to 101 day difference. This plan, however, was denied in the recent debate which resulted in a four to three vote for the current school calendar.
The board has confirmed that the next school year will begin on Aug 14., pause again for the four-day Labor Day Weekend, break again for the one week Thanksgiving Break, and then head off for Winter Break on Dec. 14, returning for the Spring Semester on Jan. 7.
