SPORTS: Girl’s Volleyball : Varsity cruises to 3-0 win; JV wins in a thriller


In their first league game of the season, Van Nuys Volleyball Girls dominated against Canoga Park on Wednesday, September. 6.

The JV team began with a strong start as they took the first set 25-13, led by nine aces from #17 Captain Bella Sta. Ana. With a deficit of 23-17, Van Nuys storms back to force a tiebreaker and a thrilling comeback 30-28 win. “The comeback was nice and it showed our resilience, however we shouldn’t have been in this situation.” said Head JV Coach Omri Azarly.

In their league debut, Van Nuys Varsity Girls established themselves at the service line, dishing out float serves that presented a challenge for Canoga’s passers resulting in a 25-18 win. In the second set, setters #7 Captain Alex Dalumpines and #20 Lauren Woolsey dished out dimes to their outside and right side hitters, as they put on a offensive clinic led by #12 Captain Soana Manu and #14 Captain Lolit Aninias. After a 25-13 win in the second set, Van Nuys was clicking on all cylinders as they eventually overwhelmed the Canoga Hunters in a 25-5 rout.

Final Score : 25-18, 25-13, 25-5
